The company has been working on the development of its TidalKite technology to harness energy from low velocity tidal streams in shallow waters since late 2013. The TidalKite technology is based on an underwater kite operated perpendicular to a water stream that creates a traction force that is converted into electricity. For IANOS, SeaQurrent will adapt its TidalKite technology to make it suitable for deployment near Ameland (Netherlands), enable integration in the island energy system to enable tidal energy production from this location.

CERTH is the technical coordinator of IANOS and will lead several activities: technical and innovation management, development of the crowd-equity/funding component for the IEPT toolset, development of the necessary forecasting mechanisms, utilising artificial intelligence meta-learning models for both demand and renewable energy sources. Moreover, it will employ its expertise into intelligent clustering and segmentation of prosumers to implement the virtual power plant aggregation & classification component and it will draft the System ICT Architecture. CERT will also participate in equipping the FEID-PLUs with capabilities to control on field vehicle-to-grid and storage assets. Finally, CERTH will support the replication of the proposed energy solutions for the island of Nisyros (Greece).
