Home » Community Engagement Training Samsø
On 21-23 March, the group of IANOS island partners, gathered by New Energy Coalition, will head to Samsø (Denmark). During these days, they will be jointly trained in community engagement by EnergiAkademiet. The aim of the Community Engagement training is to foster a train-the-trainer approach and to facilitate a knowledge base for IANOS island partners. These partners wil organise their own training session on the islands to engage the local community.
The Danish island of Samsø is regarded an exemplary case of a successful community-led island decarbonisation project. Led by pioneering citizens, the island has managed to become fully selfsupplied with renewable electricity from 10 offshore and 11 onshore wind turbines and a local solar field, energy efficiency improvements in people’s homes and renewable heating from biomass and solar-thermal district heating networks. The vast majority of these projects are owned, serviced, and profited from by local actors. During the training on Samsø, they will experience these innovations first-hand and the capacity-building processes that led to their success.
Island partners can expect a packed programme. Besides training sessions and workshops provided by EnergiAkademiet, several site visits, updates from the islands and a specific workshop on energy cooperative crowdfunding are planned.
The training is organised as part of the Work Package 8 Task 8.3 activities of the IANOS island decarbonisation project. Task 8.3 focusses on capacity building through training sessions on the participating islands.
