The IANOS consortium has completed the technical, environmental, and economic impact assessments for the Lighthouse islands of Terceira and Ameland, showing clear and meaningful results from the project’s energy solutions. Using CERTH’s USE platform, real operational data was analysed to evaluate how the IANOS innovative technologies performed in practice.

Innovativve solutions on Ameland & Terceirra

On Ameland, the interventions led to a higher share of renewable energy in the electricity mix and a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. On Terceira, despite reduced geothermal availability in recent years, important local improvements were achieved: in the Terra Chã district, new rooftop PV systems increased households’ energy independence and reduced reliance on the grid.

VERIFY-D toolkit shows reducation long-term energy use

At the same time, CERTH’s VERIFY-D toolkit was used to carry out detailed environmental and economic life cycle-based assessments, showing that the IANOS solutions can reduce long-term energy use, lower emissions, and provide cost-effective improvements for both islands.

Altogether, the findings highlight how the project’s technologies can support cleaner, more resilient, and more affordable energy systems for island communities.
