We are excited to announce the publication of the paper “Integrated Methodology for Community-Oriented Energy Investments: Architecture, Implementation, and Assessment for the Case of Nisyros Island.” This study introduces a comprehensive approach to smart grid investments for local energy communities (LECs).
Using the IANOS Energy Planning and Transition (IEPT) suite, the methodology evaluates energy, environmental, financial, and social impacts to identify the most sustainable and profitable solutions. The paper highlights the successful application of this approach on Nisyros Island, Greece, where three smart grid investment scenarios were analyzed.
The results show that a 50% self-consumption target over a 20-year period is the most financially viable, offering significant benefits and profitability. This research provides valuable guidance for optimizing energy investments in local communities.
