TERCEIRA PILOT FULLY EQUIPPED AND READY FOR THE NEXT PHASE

Terceira pilot ready with advanced energy systems to support clean transition. 39 PVs, batteries, and KISENSE integration now complete.
Terceira island installations completed

The Terceira pilot’s technology installations are now complete. The integration with Cleanwatt’s KISENSE platform this month will pave the way for monitoring and analysis in the new year.
Recap Capacity Building Training Sessions on Bora Bora

For the IANOS project four days of incredible training sessions have been concluded for Students, Citizens, and Stakeholders of Bora Bora in June of 2024.
Recap Capacity Building Training Session for Nisyros Island

On March 20th and 21st, the IANOS WP8 team held three training sessions for capacity building.
Publication of Paper: “Energy Analysis and Environmental Impact Assessment for Self-Sufficient Non-Interconnected Islands: The Case of Nisyros Island”

We are happy to share the publication of the paper “Energy Analysis and Environmental Impact Assessment for Self-Sufficient Non-Interconnected Islands: The Case of Nisyros Island.” This study addresses the energy challenges faced by non-interconnected islands (NII), which are heavily reliant on fossil fuels.
Focusing on the Greek island of Nisyros, the paper examines sustainable scenarios using innovative technologies. These scenarios aim to achieve energy self-sufficiency targets of up to 50% by 2030 and 95% by 2050.
The findings reveal significant benefits, including an 88% reduction in fossil fuel costs and a 38% decrease in CO2 emissions. The study demonstrates that NIIs can reduce their reliance on thermal energy and enhance self-sufficiency with local renewable resources, while ensuring grid stability.
Building capacity during summer school on Ameland

On May 29th, students from 11 countries explored Ameland’s innovative energy projects during the Summer School.
Recap Capacity Building Training Session on Lampedusa Island

We embarked on a series of capacity building training sessions for Lampedusans – citizens, stakeholders, and students. Between the 22nd and 27th of November, a total of 8 training sessions took place in the marine protected area and in the local school where we demystified climate change and decarbonisation of the island.
RECAP CAPACITY BUILDING TRAINING SESSION ON TERCEIRA ISLAND

Energy transition on islands is not only a matter of technology, but also about involving local citizens and stakeholders in the decision-making process. They are the ones who can shape the energy transition on their island! In this context, several training sessions took place last week on Terceira, Azores. Three training sessions were provided by New Energy Coalition, EDA, Regional Government of the Azores, UNINOVA and with guest speaker CleanWatts.
Utilising Energy Flexibility
We are developping a Centralized Dispatcher which is responsible for creating the optimal dispatch and control of all assets in the field trials at the islands of Ameland and Terceira. The goal of the Centralized Dispatcher is to utilise the energy flexibility offered by devices such as (Hybrid) heat pumps and match that with an increasing amount of intermittent renewable energy production from wind and solar PV.
